Finding the right mattress is a dream come true, especially since the right one can help you achieve the sleep of your dreams. Unfortunately, that very mattress will require quite a hefty investment, thereby prompting you to be extra careful with your new sleeping gear. Its value is unparalleled, especially if you’ve decided to trust in the power of Sleep Number Beds.
The hard part comes with the idea of moving your adjustable bed. The process of moving from one place to another can be tiring and one that places most of your possessions at risk—including your favorite mattress. With all the packing and unpacking, moving and tossing, and other moving activities involved, you’ll want to make sure that your bed is as safe as possible.
Moving a Sleep Number bed, however, is no easy feat. You’ll need more than just protective coverings, as you will need to disassemble and assemble your bed carefully. If you’re looking to move soon and wish to keep the quality of your smart bed intact, here is a simple, two-step guide for you to follow:
Step 1: Tackling the Mattress
This will seem easy enough to accomplish, but remember to keep your focus and work slowly. You risk puncturing the air chambers, so make sure to work on a flat and item-free surface. As you lay your mattress flat on the floor, carefully unzip it. The contraption can be found between the pillow cover and base, but make sure to unzip the bottom part only.
Carefully tug the hose out of the mattress, which can be done by pushing the gray tab on the side. Make sure to repeat it on the other side of your mattress, as there are usually two hoses per air chamber. After doing so, make sure to extract the mattress components, which should include the following items:
- Air chambers
- Foam border walls
- Corner locks
Keep everything in a separate box, with ample protection to keep everything safe and sound during the moving process.
Step 2: Working on the Base
This next step will depend on your Sleep Number base model, but most adjustable beds usually come with the FlexFit base. If this is the case, carefully remove the mattress retainers. This can be done by unscrewing the hex head bolts. However, if you happen to have a California King, make sure to separate the individually adjustable bases carefully.
After working on the structure, turn the inside legs counterclockwise to loosen, but don’t remove them just yet. Work on the bed straps next, to be followed by securing the legs back in place. This should be done on all corners of your base. To ensure that your base remains intact during the moving process, keep all hardware in strong and secure boxes. Your base should also be completely covered by plastic or any covering of your choice.
Getting the Moving Process Right
At first, glance, moving your Sleep Number bed may seem like a thoroughly challenging task. With careful planning and proper instincts, however, you speed up the process. So long as you know how to properly back both your mattress and base, you’ll be able to keep them safe during the moving process, no matter how long the travel time maybe. Just remember that to keep the steps above in mind!
